REFERENDUM PROJECT- You may have heard about the current initiative to bring several bills from the 2023 New Mexico Legislative session that were signed into to law before voters in the 2024 General Election. Petitions are being circulated for the following bills:
- SB 180 -ELECTION CHANGES - Automatic voter registration. Compels counties to use internet connected poll books. Provides for internet petitions for candidates. Ballot counting would stop at 11:00pm
- HB 4 VOTING RIGHTS PROTECTIONS. Would expand use of drop boxes and automatically send ballots to voters on a PERMANENT absentee voter list.
- HB 7 -REPRODUCTIVE & GENDER-AFFIRMING HEALTH CARE - "A public body or agent of a public body shall not, directly or indirectly, deny, restrict or interfere with a person's ability to access or provide reproductive health care or gender-affirming health care within the medical standard of care. " Civil penalties for violations.
- SB 13 - REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROVIDER PROTECTIONS - Protects providers, recipients etc. engaging in "reproductive and gender affirming healthcare"
- SB 397- SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CENTERS
- HB 207- EXPAND HUMAN RIGHTS ACT SCOPE

As part of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency’s push for more affordable housing, home buyers with good credit scores will be forced to pay additional fees on their mortgages. Starting on May 1, the federally backed mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will establish new loan-level price adjustments with private banks nationwide. Those additional fees will be used to subsidize home buyers with risky credit scores.
